Five years of vacancy - time to look at the Mäusebunker from a new perspective. Together with over thirty urban design initiatives, we are asking: How can the Mäusebunker site be rethought as a place for urban wellbeing? Together with you, we are opening up the open spaces around the Mäusebunker for future ideas for a healthy city of tomorrow. In doing so, we are daring to attempt to transform the iconic Brutalist building Mäusebunker into a place of well-being, contrary to its history of use.
As part of the "Festival for Urban Wellbeing ... around the Mäusebunker" from 12 to 22 September 2024, we invite you to explore topics relating to mental, physical, social and environmental health. The programme is free and outdoors: from cooking together with local plants, exploring the history of the site, community jogging and other exercise activities, as well as many other workshops on the topic of health, performances, music, live studios and talks - there's something for everyone! It's also worth stopping by outside the regular programme for sauna sessions, mini golf, stories and changing exhibitions. After the festival, the site will remain open for you until 28.09.24.
PROGRAMM
For 10 days, there is plenty to experience around the Mäusebunker. Together with you - the neighbourhood, creatives, urban planners and urban actors - we will play with the space and let our imaginations run wild.
What's on the programme? Whether it's a mini-golf tournament, community jogging, cooking together with local plants, numerous workshops, exhibitions and talks, there's something for everyone.

Topic
Since 2019, the preservation and possible subsequent use of the research facility for experimental medicine (known as the Mäusebunker) in Steglitz-Lichterfelde has been the subject of intense debate. Due to its iconic design, many people are committed to preserving the building, which is now a listed building.
Following the relocation of the animal laboratories of Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the building was decommissioned at the end of 2020 and has stood empty ever since. In the "Mäusebunker Modellverfahren", initiated in 2021 by the Berlin State Monuments Office in cooperation with the Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung, Bauen und Wohnen and Charité, future use scenarios for the building were developed and an opening of the property and temporary uses were recommended in order to anchor the site more firmly in the local context, enable appropriation by the urban community and lead to future concepts.
In keeping with the history and special flair of the Mäusebunker, the festival is all about feeling good in the city.
We invite the neighbourhood and the entire urban community to think together about how we can promote physical, mental, social and ecological well-being. What does the healthy city of the future look like? Let's develop and try out visions together.

Bus stop Krahmerstr./Stockweg (M85 and 285)
The nearest bus stop is Krahmerstr./Stockweg (line M85 towards S Lichterfelde Süd and line 285 towards Zehlendorf, Andréezeile).
From there, parts of the route to the "Mäusebunker" lead over road crossings. The Hindenburgdamm, a two-lane concreted road, must be crossed. The trail then leads along a concrete path through a park. Then you have to cross Hindenburgdamm again, a two-lane concrete road. Krahmerstraße then leads directly to the "Mäusebunker" on concreted pavements. Access is regulated by a gate and limited access is possible via a concreted ramp.

The lift is defective between the S-Bahn platform (south-western end of the platform) and Enzianstraße (road bridge).

PARKING
There are no parking spaces in the "Mäusebunker". There are no designated parking spaces for people with disabilities and/or impairments in Krahmerstraße or directly on the premises. The hard shoulder of the road can be used free of charge for parking.

The grounds of the Mäusebunker are partly fenced off and difficult to access, which emphasises its character as a closed research facility. The building itself is not accessible. The festival site is located on the terraces and open spaces of the Mäusebunker. The surrounding area consists of a mixture of green spaces, concreted areas and part of the Teltow Canal. At the same time, the site is complemented by several parks. The terraces are concreted and can be accessed from the street via a ramp (with a gradient of 11%). The second terrace is only accessible via 11 steps. This area is therefore only partially accessible.
The green areas are not paved and can therefore only be reached with limited accessibility. The lower area of the terraces is also accessible via a concreted ramp (with a gradient of 10%).

You will find 5 gender-neutral toilets on the site. The exact information for our toilet finizio toilet "Humero" are:

CONSCIOUS - SOLIDARY - TOGETHER
We wish to treat each other with consideration and solidarity. Our events should be places where we meet at eye level. We want to use our resources to create low-barrier and discrimination-sensitive spaces so that everyone can feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
WE BELIEVE SUFFERERS
It is up to those affected to define what constitutes a boundary crossing for them. We do not doubt their experience, but stand behind them and offer them support. Your needs and requirements are the focus. In this way, we want to create an atmosphere in which those affected can once again feel comfortable to continue participating in the events.
REFLECT PRIVILEGES AND POSITIONS
We all grew up in discriminatory systems. Therefore, we would like to take a closer look at our own privileges and positions. This includes the “bubble” in which we find ourselves. Who is (not) part of my environment? Which perspectives dominate here? At our events, we want to deal sensitively with the experiences of discrimination of our interlocutors. If a person comes to you with constructive criticism, try to listen first. We all make mistakes. Our concern is to learn from each other.
MINDFUL HANDLING OF SPACE AND TIME
All participants are encouraged to participate in discussion groups at our events. Please always pay attention to how much speaking time and space you take up. If you’ve already contributed a lot to a round, why not sit out a few minutes to give other people the opportunity? Avoid inferring from your position to that of others. We welcome a diversity of perspectives.
GENDER IS DIVERSE
We don’t want to infer a person’s gender from their physical appearance. Gender identities are diverse and go far beyond the categories of “man” and “woman.” When you get into conversation, ask people their name and pronouns (she/her; he/him; they/them; they/they; no pronoun, etc.). This helps us avoid mislabeling people, which can be hurtful.
(IN)VISIBLE BARRIERS
Many barriers are not directly visible. For us, acting more inclusively means thinking about invisible disabilities, limitations and challenges at events and creating the best possible access. We want to encourage everyone to be responsive to one another.
